Questions

The things people ask

About the coffee, the grind, delivery, wholesale and subscriptions. If yours isn’t here, ask us.

The coffee

What is in the blend?

Beans from Colombia, Brazil and Guatemala, roasted medium. In the cup: caramel and milk chocolate first, a little cardamom behind them, and a soft, creamy finish. Strength 3 of 5.

Is it a dark roast?

No. It is a medium roast: darker than most filter-style specialty coffee, lighter than a traditional Italian espresso roast. It drinks clean black and holds its flavour in milk.

Does it work with oat or other plant milks?

Yes. The caramel and milk-chocolate notes carry through oat, almond and soy without turning sour, which is the usual problem with lighter roasts.

Is there anything in the bag besides coffee?

No. Roasted coffee beans only. Nothing added, no flavouring. It is naturally plant-based and gluten-free.

How long does a bag stay fresh?

Keep it sealed in its bag, away from heat and light, and it is at its best for about a month after opening. Whole beans keep longer than ground. Don’t refrigerate it. There is more on this on the Our coffee page.

Grind and brewing

Should I order whole beans or ground?

Whole beans if you have a grinder of any kind: coffee loses most of its aroma within a day of grinding. Ground if you don’t. Our ground option is a medium grind that suits a plunger, filter cone, batch brewer or stovetop.

Can I use the ground coffee in an espresso machine?

Not well. Espresso needs a much finer grind than plunger or filter coffee, and it needs to be ground just before brewing. For espresso, order whole beans and grind at the machine.

How do I brew it?

There are step-by-step brew guides for espresso, plunger, AeroPress and filter, with doses, grind sizes, temperatures and times for this blend.

How much coffee is in a bag?

A 250 g bag makes about 12 to 14 espressos, or 8 plungers at 30 g each. A 1 kg bag makes about 50 espressos or 33 plungers.

Ordering and delivery

How much is delivery?

$10 flat, anywhere in Australia. Free on orders of $60 or more, which is a 1 kg bag or four 250 g bags.

Where do you deliver?

Australia-wide, from Sydney. Sydney orders typically arrive within one to three business days of dispatch; the rest of Australia within three to seven.

Do I get a tax invoice?

Yes. Every order comes with a GST tax invoice by email. Prices on the site include GST.

What if it arrives damaged or isn’t what I ordered?

Email a photo to admin@madisonavecoffee.com within seven days and we’ll replace it or refund you, your choice. Full details are on the delivery and returns page.

Can I subscribe?

Subscriptions are being set up now: 250 g or 1 kg, whole or ground, every 2, 4 or 6 weeks. Leave your details and we’ll email you the day they open.

Cafés and offices

Is there a wholesale minimum?

Not for a first order. Pricing depends on how many kilos you go through each month; tell us roughly and we’ll send a per-kilo price. Details on the wholesale page.

Can I try it before committing?

Yes. Request a sample and we’ll send a 250 g bag, whole or ground, to pull on your own machine.

Do you supply the machine or a barista?

Not from this site, but our sister business does. Madison Ave Coffee & Catering runs coffee carts and baristas for offices and events across Sydney, pouring the same beans.
